01Three waterlines
The key design decision in a concrete pool is how the water meets the edge. A skimmer pool is the most economical; an overflow pool makes the surface a mirror; an infinity edge links the water to the view.
- Skimmer · no balance tank
- Overflow · grated channel and balance tank
- Infinity · a spilling edge facing the view
02When does concrete make sense?
For pools that don't fit standard sizes, need to blend with the architecture or will see heavy use. Overflow edges, built-in steps and special finishes can all be solved in one project.
- Free-form plans and different depth zones
- Mosaic, tile or liner finishes
- Villas, residences and hotels
03How it is built
After the site visit and measurements come the structural design, excavation, reinforcement and concrete. Then the pipework is pressure-tested, waterproofing and finish are applied and the plant room is installed.
- Reinforcement and pipework checked before pouring
- Pressure test to prove the system is watertight
- Filling and commissioning after the finish
04What creates the effect?
The edge alone doesn't do it. Pool level, the viewing point, the overflow channel and the balance tank that collects the water all work together — so we start by measuring the view and the slope.
- The waterline seen from the main seating area
- Slope, retaining walls and drainage
- Wind direction and safe walking areas
